Why I won't treat a skin until the barrier is right.

I get asked a lot what makes Healing Hands different to a regular facial or beauty salon, and honestly, it comes down to one word most people have never heard before: Corneotherapy.

It's not a treatment. It's the philosophy I treat from. Corneotherapy was developed by dermatologist Dr. Albert Kligman, and the idea behind it is simple: the outermost layer of your skin, the stratum corneum, isn't just a surface. It's a living, active barrier, and when it's compromised, almost nothing you do on top of it works the way it should.

I've seen it so many times. Someone comes in having tried every active, every acid, every "miracle" product, and their skin has only gotten more reactive, more inflamed, more unpredictable. Usually, it's because the barrier was never strong enough to handle what was being thrown at it.

So before I recommend anything, I'm looking at the condition of that barrier first. Is it intact? Is it inflamed? Can it actually tolerate correction right now, or does it need to be repaired before we even think about results?

This is why your first appointment with me is never "here's what we're doing today." It's a proper look at what your skin can handle, and a plan built around that, not around what's trending.
